Times past, times present

The economic reforms of the 1960s in Yugoslavia were, towards the end of that same decade, systematically phased out to provide room for self-managed economy. The following decade opened with the Amendments to the Constitution introducing inter alia the basis for Compact Economy. The banking system set up on the basis of the 1965 Law on Banks was sent a silk rope. The academic paper presented here illustrates the vain hope of that period that the banks would continue their market oriented development.
