Summary: The European Banking Authority Guidelines on management of non-performing and forborne exposures (in force as of 30th June 2019), constitute a significant component of the Action Plan to reduce the level of non-performing loans that was adopted in July 2017 by the European Council. The EBA Guidelines comprise ten sections, two sections thereof are specific as they apply only to the EU banks with significant levels of non-performing exposures. Those banks are requested to adopt ambitious, but realistic, NPE strategies, which should be fully embedded in business processes at all levels of the organisation.
